In this session, we’ll dive into the transformative changes ahead in 2025, including the new administration, anticipated federal tax legislation and shifting economic and political dynamics, as well as their implications for the nonprofit, social and philanthropic sectors. This session will include time for a Q&A.

9:20–10:20 a.m. – Governance for Nonprofits

Having good governance is essential for any nonprofit. This session will examine the core elements of nonprofit governance, focusing on fiduciary duties, board responsibilities and best practices for board operations. We’ll also explore the compliance requirements and risk management strategies, including policy development and regulatory obligations of a nonprofit organization. You’ll walk away equipped with the knowledge you need to navigate nonprofit governance with confidence and competence.

10:30–11:20 a.m. – NOCLAR for Nonprofit Auditors and Advisors

This program will help nonprofit auditors and advisors identify and respond to instances of non-compliance with laws and regulations (NOCLAR) to comply with professional standards. The program also discusses recommendations for polices and procedures firms can adopt to document their compliance should an instance of NOCALR arise.

11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. – Form 990: Key Areas and Frequently Asked Questions

Form 990 is the annual information return that tax-exempt organizations file to report financial statements, governance practices and details on their program service achievements. In this session, we’ll dive into the key areas of the return that matter most to the IRS, donors and stakeholders. We’ll also cover the sections of Form 990 that generate the most common questions, ensuring you have a clear understanding of what’s required and how to ensure compliance.

In this session, we’ll discuss developments in U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) that are important to nonprofits. Topics include accounting standards updates (ASUs) issued since last year’s conference, implementation matters concerning other recent ASUs, current financial reporting issues and current FASB projects. 

9:40–10:30 a.m. – Strategic Total Rewards and Related Legal Considerations: Giving Your Organization the Edge in Attracting and Retaining Top Talent

11:40 a.m.–12:30 p.m. – Changes to OMB’s Uniform Guidance and Other FAQs

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) updated the Uniform Guidance in 2024, impacting both the administration and audit of federal grants and other awards. This segment will provide details related to the most significant changes to the Uniform Guidance, as well as provide answers to frequently asked questions when planning and performing Single Audits applying that guidance.
